Just as every college has its own O-Week, every college has 2-3 students who serve as that a year's O-Week coordinators. At Jones, the O-Week coordinators are elected in late January and immediately begin to work on O-Week preparations. During the spring semester, they go through a rigorous process of interviewing and choosing advisors from Jones and all over campus, and then they put those advisors into teams to best serve incoming Jonesians! They live on campus all summer planning every aspect of O-Week, down to the mail you receive and the website that you’re are currently reading. They also match every new student with a roommate, place them on a floor in Jones, and put them into O-Week groups. They are here for any questions that students or parents might have, so feel free to contact them at any time!

Coordinators

What is O-Week?

O-Week is just short for Orientation Week, a week in August set aside at Rice University just for the new students. In some ways, it's the same as Orientation at any other university. You'll register for classes, get an email account, learn your way around campus—all the usual stuff. In many ways, though, Rice O-Week is oh-so unique. How many of your friends going to other universities will experience late night trips to Galveston and House of Pies, racing around in shopping carts, and having dinner at the home of a professor? They won't, trust us, but YOU will—all while meeting tons of people and getting acclimated to Jones College, your home for the next several years.

Each of the 11 residential colleges runs its own O-Week, complete with its own theme. O-Week is slightly different at each college, so while you might be walking around with your Mickey and PlutO-Week T-shirt on, other students will be wearing their shirts from other (less cool) colleges with themes such as ApollO-Week, CommandO-Week, and Jack SparrO-Week. In addition to loads of activities at Jones to help everyone meet everyone, you'll also have many chances to meet the new students at other colleges.
